In I DO, her third book published with Colpa Press, Barbara Stauffacher Solomon looks at the space between two people joined in marriage, and the language that binds them. In a tone both pragmatic and expressive, her typographic arrangements represent the reduced self within a unit — but they also capture a wild breaking free from convention, as stripes interrupt shapes and letters dissolve into colorful fragments.
Barbara Stauffacher Solomon (b.1928 in San Francisco) has worked as an artist, designer, and landscape architect across eight decades. Perhaps best known for her invention of Supergraphics, she has also shown her work widely and is represented in the permanent collections of MoMA, LACMA, The Walker Art Center, and many more.
